John Michael Milford Holyer hails from the Commonwealth of Virginia, born March 30th, 1979 in Charlottesville. His upbringing in the South included stops in South Carolina and Arkansas before returning to reside outside of Richmond. He attended college at the University of the South in Sewanee, TN, earning a BA in philosophy in May of 2001. He attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO, earning an MDiv and certification for the Office of Holy Ministry in May 2006.
Pastor Holyer vicared at St. John Lutheran Church in Hamlin, NY, and spent a year studying abroad at the Lutheran Seminary, Wesfield House, in Cambridge, England. Having considered the STM program at Concordia Seminary, Pastor Holyer was not called into the ministry until the fall of 2006. On November 12th, 2006, he was ordained and installed as Associate Pastor at St. Paul. In addition to the shared duties of preaching, teaching, and visitation, Pastor Holyer oversees the congregation’s outreach efforts and aspects of assimilating new members into the St. Paul family.
Pastor Holyer has been blessed with a wonderful wife, Miranda, since June 2005. Though she is from Indianapolis, he actually met her in England while studying abroad. Pastor Holyer enjoys using power tools, reading, watching movies, playing sports (mostly golf these days), and watching sports. He is most passionate about Notre Dame, Manchester United, Duke, the Braves, and the 49ers. (Despite appearances to the contrary, he is not a fair-weather fan.)
