Mr. Hammon was born in Napoleon, and attended St. Paul Lutheran School in grades 6 through 8.  He was a member of the first graduation and confirmation class at the “new church”, the present day site of St. Paul, in 1964.  John graduated from Napoleon High School, attended Concordia Junior College in Ann Arbor, Michigan for two years, and then graduated from Concordia Teachers College River Forest, Illinois in 1972.  Mr. Hammon accepted his first call to Nassau Lutheran School in Mineola, New York, and served there as a 6th and 8th grade teacher, and several years as principal.  In 1977, he accepted a call back to St. Paul, and has been teaching here since that time.  John has been a 6th grade teacher here at St. Paul, and for the past twenty-eight years has taught one of the 8th grades.  At present he concentrates on math and computers in the upper grades.  During his time at St. Paul, Mr. Hammon was involved in coaching and as athletic director for over twenty years.  He sings in the adult choir, is a member of the Adult Praise Team for the Informal Worship, and is a member of the Ohio District Technology Task Force.  Right now, time around St. Paul outside the classroom is taken up serving as the technology coordinator.  John is married to Elaine, the school secretary, and they have two children Jennifer and Joel, and two granddaughters Jenna and Madelyn.  Mr. Hammon spends his free time playing tennis year round, lots of golf in the summer, keeping tropical fish, and constantly messing with a computer.
